Resource Recovery Worker

    $18.00-$19.00/hour
    Full-time 40 hours/week
    Non-exempt

    Monday-Thursday and Saturday

    We have an immediate need for a Resource Recovery Worker at the Buena Vista Recycling Center. The Resource Recovery Worker is responsible for physical aspects of the drive through recycling facilities, including the use of forklifts and balers to maintain the safe and orderly processing of recycling materials.

    Primary Responsibilities
    • Orderly processing of recycling materials; direct the public in the correct recycling procedures and bins.
    • Safe operation of a forklift to empty recycling bins and load trucks.
    • Safe operation of balers to compact cardboard, plastics and aluminum cans.
    • Accumulate materials, communicate with vendors, prepare paperwork and load shipments.
    • Maintain recycling areas to keep them clean and debris-free.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications
    • Excellent communication skills to interact with, support and educate diverse individuals including customers, staff, vendors and other stakeholders.
    • Ability to work independently and with supervision; flexible attitude in working with the public in a sometimes heavy traffic environment.
    • Requisite experience, training and certification for the safe operation of a forklift. Training and certification will be provided.
    • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
    • Bilingual Spanish/English a plus.
    Special Conditions of Employment
    • Must possess a valid license to drive in the State of California and have a clean DMV.
    • Ability to perform essential physical job functions typically requiring bending, kneeling, squatting, sitting, standing for long periods of time, walking, handling objects, pushing/pulling, reaching above shoulder level, and using fine finger movements with manual dexterity. Must be able to work outdoors. Must adhere to safety standards and wear appropriate equipment to include safety shoes, gloves, and other personal protective equipment as required.
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly. Work in a fast paced environment, working with customers and traffic and be able to move safely and provide a high degree of customer service.
