Sustainability
Programs
Recycling
Every bottle, can, and newspaper counts. Grey Bears’ Recycling Center diverts millions of pounds from the landfill each year, turning waste into resources that sustain our programs and our planet.
Repair
Don’t toss it — fix it! Our Repair Café events empower the community to extend the life of beloved items, reduce waste, and learn valuable skills alongside talented volunteer fixers.
Compost
Transforming food scraps into nourishment for the earth. Our compost program closes the loop by reusing organic waste to create healthy soil — helping gardens and communities thrive while diverting food waste from the landfill.
Thrift Store
Shop with purpose. The Award- Winning Grey Bears Thrift Store offers gently used treasures at affordable prices, while supporting our mission to nourish seniors and protect the environment. Every purchase gives back.

Happy Father’s Day to the dads, grandfathers, and father figures who strengthen our community with wisdom, care, and resilience.
Today we celebrate you and the vital role you play in every generation. With gratitude from all of us at Grey Bears. Your presence reminds us of the importance of connection, guidance, dependability, and giving back — values we strive to uphold every day.

Grey Bears extends our sincere appreciation to Bookie’s Pizza and Sante Adairius for their meaningful partnership through a recent community giving initiative.
Their generosity, along with the continued support of our local community, contributes to our Healthy Food Program and furthers our mission to promote the well-being of seniors throughout Santa Cruz County.
We’re proud to partner with local businesses that share our commitment to giving back!

At Grey Bears, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. From rescuing 1.9 million pounds of food and keeping it out of the landfill to composting, recycling, and hosting our thrift store and repair café, every program supports both our senior community and the environment.
We recently connected with the Santa Cruz community to celebrate our shared commitment to the planet. At our booth, we offered compost and upcycled shirts, with proceeds supporting our Healthy Food Program—a meaningful way to care for the Earth and those who call it home. We also shared resources and educated attendees about sustainability programs they can use to make a difference.
Thank you, Santa Cruz, for being part of this movement. We believe every day should be Earth Day. Let’s keep making a difference together.

Join us for our next 2nd Saturday Sale this Saturday, June 14. Enjoy 50 percent off everything in the thrift stores (excluding compost) from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Thank you for supporting our mission to nourish seniors in the community. Your support truly makes a difference!

Heartfelt thanks to everyone who makes Grey Bears what it is—especially our incredible volunteers. Your selflessness and care make everything we do possible, and it’s a privilege to stand together in our shared effort to nourish seniors and care for our community.
We are a compassionate and committed community—one that cares deeply for one another and is united by a common mission to serve.
Take a moment to reflect on the meaningful impact you’re making in the lives of others—and remember, the depth of that impact depends on how well we come together and lead with love.
Enjoy a glimpse into our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner—a celebration of the heart and spirit that make Grey Bears so special.

Thank you to Hula’s Island Grill for supporting Grey Bears through their Mahalo Mondays Program! Thanks to the generous support of the community and Hula’s, Grey Bears raised $1,500 to support our Healthy Food Program.
We’re grateful for everyone who helped spread the aloha!

Join us for a tie-dye workshop at the next Seniors Night Out event! It’s a fun chance to give old clothes a colorful, fresh start. Feel free to bring your own items to dye, or choose from the clothing provided.
Friends and family are welcome to come along and enjoy an evening of creativity and connection with the community.
The event will take place behind the warehouse at 2710 Chanticleer Ave.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
