    Salary $25-$34/hour
    Full-time
    Expected hours: 40 per week

    Grey Bears is a mission-driven non-profit organization focused on improving the health and well-being of seniors and our community through food and meal delivery, volunteerism, and resource conservation. We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with retail sales management experience to lead our award-winning, 7,000 sq. ft. Thrift Store – a major revenue source for the Grey Bears healthy food program. The successful candidate will oversee all facets of the employee and volunteer workforce, donations receiving, merchandising, point-of-sale and in-store operations using their exceptional management, organizational and communications skills.

    The Thrift Store Manager drives the Grey Bears mission through strategic leadership, operational excellence, and effective resource management. This role demands a blend of competencies that foster both internal team growth and external community engagement.

    The manager directs all facets of store operations:

    • Inventory procurement
    • Innovative merchandising
    • Leading a team of 10-15 individuals including employees, and volunteers
    • Overseeing recruitment, training, and performance evaluations
    • Aligning sales strategies with fiscal objectives
    • Cultivating an uplifting team atmosphere that prioritizes safety, engagement, and the full expression of employee potential
    • Developing weekly staff and volunteer schedule
    • Administrative responsibilities encompass vendor liaison, equipment upkeep, inventory management, and the execution of operational strategies that advance Grey Bears’ fundraising goals and community impact
    • Ensuring cleanliness and orderly collection, pricing, and display of merchandise
    • Monitoring, reporting on and adjusting to meet revenue and expenses prescribed through the annual department budget
    • Devising and implementing strategies that control labor, and other operating expenses, while ensuring compliance with all related laws and organization goals, and meeting or exceeding fiscal and other goals

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, plus minimum of 5 years’ experience managing a multifaceted retail operation within a retail establishment
    • Thrift store experience preferred
    • Demonstrated merchandising and marketing experience on-site and online
    • Strong knowledge of back-office management processes, including donation procurement, inventory management, and processing procedures
    • Demonstrated experience with cash handling procedures and working with budgets
    • Strong business acumen, with the ability to read and analyze financial and sales reports and respond with workforce optimization strategies
    • The ability to lead, train and motivate staff towards achieving exceptional customer service standards with diverse individuals and groups within the environment of a retail store setting
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability manage conflict, and hold others accountable
    • Must possess a strong ethical foundation and the ability to recognize and navigate conflicts of interest
    • Strong technology and organizational skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, computerized cash register system; Experience with Square helpful
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Ability to work holidays, evenings, and weekends
    • Familiarity managing basic employment regulatory matters, including time-reporting, safety standards, and achieving HR compliance
    • Must be responsible, reliable and punctual
    • The position requires working in both indoor and outdoor environments of a retail store setting, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions
    • Ability to lift 40 pounds
    • Background check required for selected candidate
